Summer 2021

We came over to Rockland on June 9th and hooked up the batteries and loaded food on board. I hooked up the new solar panel as well as the old one. We set about scrapping the toe rail. We painted the bottom and launched the dinghy. I ran the mast wires under the cabin sole and into the hanging locker.

6/13- put approx 35 gallons of diesel into the new tank. I serviced all three thru hulls and attached wooden plugs to each. I had to clear a large blockage in the cockpit drain. It was mostly hair??

6/14- I replaced the filter in the Raycor  filter. We then painter the toe rail and bow sprit with a coat of Cetol regular.

6/15- Launched today, everything went fine. On mooring #11 this year.

Alayne and Saryn left for California for a week and I had to drive them down to Boston. While they were gone I finished hooking the mast wires up to terminals in the hanging locker. I made water proof connections for the radar and VHF wires under the sole using rj-45 connections. I got the radar working although at first I could not adjust anything. Eventually I figured out how to adjust the things I need to adjust. However when trying to contact Kevin from Mid Coast Marine he kept blowing me off. I finally contacted Simrad and they said the new Halo 20 radar was not compatible with my NSS 8 chart plotter. That sort of pissed me off. It all seems to be working fine now except for some high tech adjustments I don't need. The wind instrument is still not working very well.

7/8- adjusted the valves on the motor today. Seems to start hard and needs an extra shot of fuel. It was suggested by some that it may be a dirty injector. I'll have to keep an eye on this

8/15- Moved the starboard forward cleat out 2" in order for it to clear the windlass better. I  hope to move the hawse hole so that the chain goes directly down into the anchor locker. I also painted the trim around the 2 main hatches with some Brightside white.

9/6- I installed new towel racks in the head made out of teak boards. I removed the wind instrument and installed a compass in the hole. I still need to make a back for it. I painted the toe rail with another coat of Cetol Natural.

9/9- We were hauled today with 515.6 hrs on the motor meaning we put 49 hours on this season. There was 812 nmiles on the chart plotter giving us 438.3 nm sailed this year.

9/10- I added some fuel with 1 1/2 oz of Biobor JF and I added 30 oz of Stan-a-dyne on a recommendation from Joe. I also installed a garboard plug and painted marks on the anchor chain.

Spring 2021 May

Came over in early May and set the finished floor in place. I had cut a new hatch in the floor to be able to access the fuel tank cleanout. I used strips of mahogany to line the sides of both hatches.

I will just need to bung all the screw holes and then reseal the whole floor.

I then set about removing the old gusher pump for the holding tank as well as the vented loop for it. I also removed the thru hull and valve. It cleaned up that area pretty well.

I then glassed it over with several layers on the outside and a couple on the inside here. Then I removed the old hot water heater which took some doing. After ripping the old shell off and removing most of the fittings it still wouldn't fit through the cockpit opening. I ended up cutting the tank in half. I cleaned up the area and painted it. I then moved one of the batteries from the #1  bank over into that spot. There will now be a 3 battery bank there  and one battery for starting the motor. I also installed terminal fuses on both battery banks (125 amps).
I rerouted the hoses from the water heater to the expansion tank. I had to install a short nipple in order for the hose to reach.
I installed a new battery monitor ( Victron BMV-700) and hooked up all the wires. The shunt was placed on the forward bulkhead inside the cockpit.
I reinstalled the vented loop for the motor exhaust. I had taken it out because it leaked last year. Turns out the metal loop is an odd size ( 1 1/4") and so I ended up attaching a small (1/4") nipple with JB Weld so I can change out the check valve if it fails again and to clean it.
I installed the fittings and plug for the new auto pilot ( Simrad TP-32) and hooked that up to the wiring panel.
I am still in the process of running the wires from the mast back to the main panel.
I had earlier installed a new stantion and rail which will hold the solar panel off the port side. I drilled the hole and put a deck gland in for the wires.

Just before leaving I repainted the cockpit floor and several other spots on the deck with the Kiwi Grip.

 Spring 2021- April

I came over to Maine earlier this year as the weather was nicer. I removed the cover and found the boat to be dry this year. I removed the floor and got to work preparing the fuel tank. I screwed braces along the sides to hold up the floor. I then ran the new fuel filler hose from the fill to the tank. I dropped in the tank and got everything hooked back up. I put in a new floor joist over the tank.

I only spent a couple of days there as the weather was closing in. I did bring the floor home where I cut a new hatch in it to access the tank clean-out.

Here is the mostly finished floor with the fuel tank installed underneath. A new fuel fill hose was also installed.

I also am building a hard dodger. I bought a piece of FRP plastic and laid it over a mold and then put 2 layers of fiberglass matt and then 2 layers of 6 oz clothe over it.
